Once EWI, always EWI
Once EWI, always EWI
Former members of the Institute of Energy Economics have been organised in an association to support the Institute's development for more than 40 years. Since 2010 the association is called 'EWI Alumni – Verein der Absolventen und Freunde des Energiewirtschaftlichen Instituts an der Universität zu Köln e.V.'.
In accordance with its articles of association, EWI Alumni has the goal of promoting the exchange of experience between scientific research and practice. EWI Alumni offers its current 380 members five events a year to educate themselves further in energy economics, and of course, also to socialise and maintain contact with one another.
Each year, the EWI Alumni Association organises a specialist workshop for its members. Each workshop offers talks, either by external experts, EWI alumni members of EWI researchers. The last workshop, dated May 3rd, 2012, dealt with "Nessessary Grid Extension and its Financing". The workshop in 2011 addressed the change in Germany's engergy policy. In 2010, the workshop focused on DESERTEC and in 2009 on electro-mobility.
Every year in May the association offers an excursion on energy economics. In May 2012 the excursion on "Solar Heating" went to Granada. In 2011 the EWI Alumni delegates travelled to Groningen and obtained information on the subject of natural gas. (Read the Excursion Report about this trip.) The central topic of the excursion to Bremerhaven in 2010 was "Climate Change and Wind Power". In 2009, the alumni travelled to St. Petersburg and gained information on Russia's natural gas industry.
There is an EWI alumni round table in Cologne in spring and late summer. The most recent round table met in Cologne on Friday, March 2nd, 2012.
The annual general meeting of EWI is always held in November in Cologne (the last time on November 25, 2011).
The association offers two different types of membership. You may be admitted as an ordinary member, if you wrote your thesis or dissertation at the Cologne University. Any interested party may be admitted as an extraordinary member on request, provided their membership is beneficial to the aims of the association.
Contact for all matters concerning EWI Alumni is
