There is no question that the ongoing climate change must be stopped. But what path do we have to take? How do we get from knowledge to action? And what potential does digitalization offer for the energy revolution? Answers can be found at the “Energy in Transition” conference organized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT and the Energy Research Cluster of the EnergyAgency.NRW in Oberhausen. EWI Director Wolfgang Ketter will give a keynote speech on the topic “Will AI revolutionise the energy system of the future?”.

Over the next ten years, the capacity of renewable electricity generation will have to be almost doubled. At the same time, it will be necessary to replace around one third of large fossil-fuel power plants with small, decentralised plants. One of the biggest challenges in this conversion process is to ensure that the requirements in terms of economic efficiency, environmental and social compatibility and security of supply are met.

In this transformation, digitization plays a key role: a large number of decentralized plants have to communicate with each other in order to cover energy requirements at all times. At the same time, the energy systems must be coupled with each other in order to balance fluctuations with high dynamics and to achieve the highest possible economic efficiency. This requires new digital solutions. How such solutions can be developed on the basis of scientific findings and practical experience will be discussed together.

Registrations are accepted until 31 October 2019. The participation fee (incl. drinks and snacks) is 90 € or 30 € for students (presentation of a certificate of enrolment required).
