Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ketter leaves the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) on December 31st, 2021, for personal reasons. Cologne University Foundation as the sole shareholder, the Supervisory Board and the entire team of EWI have received this announcement with regret and express their gratitude for his contributions.

Professor Ketter had served as a Director at the EWI since 2017 in a part-time role next to his professorship at the University of Cologne. “Wolfgang Ketter has significantly developed the Institute’s activities, especially in the field of digital solutions for decentralized energy supply,” said EWI Director Prof. Marc Oliver Bettzüge. “We regret that he will leave EWI, thank him for his contributions and are pleased that he will remain with us as a full-time professor at the University of Cologne.” Furthermore, Professor Ketter has made important contributions to the further internationalization of the Institute, for example regarding the cooperation with Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He has also successfully designed and conducted several EWI Summer Schools for international PhD students.

The subject area of “Digitization & Decentralization” will continue to play an important and increasing role in the institute’s research in the future. Thus, EWI board and management are currently actively working on a succession plan for Professor Ketter’s contributions to our work in this field. Irrespective of these decisions, Dr. Johannes Wagner, Manager, will continue to lead EWI’s research and project activities in this important area.
