The new program for a PhD in Energy Economics with a three-year doctoral fellowship will start in October 2022. Interested applicants can apply now.

The Cologne Graduate School in Economics, Management, and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne in cooperation with the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) offers a fellowship program for PhD students in energy economics. It includes training and supervision to obtain a doctoral degree or PhD at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne. The fellowship is dedicated to the research topics of the EWI:

  • Energy markets and energy carriers
  • Decarbonization and sector coupling
  • Market design and regulation
  • Digitalization and decentralization.

EWI Fellows enroll in the doctoral program or PhD program at the CGS. They receive a three-year PhD scholarship, participate in the EWI PhD program, and have the opportunity to work part-time at the EWI in parallel.

Unique academic environment

The combination of one of the CGS structured graduate programs with the EWI research program and activities provides a unique academic environment. Qualified students without sufficient economics training will also receive additional training and a corresponding extension of the fellowship period (“Economics Booster”).

Interested students can apply until July 31. Further information can be found here:
