On January 1, 2022, the Institute of Energy Economics will join the renowned Johannes Rau Research Foundation. Intensive cooperation with the other JRF institutes is planned, especially in networking, research, and promoting junior scientists.

On its own behalf: The Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) will join the Johannes Rau Research Foundation (JRF) as its 16th member institute on January 1, 2022. At EWI’s request, this was unanimously decided by the board of directors, the board of trustees, and the general meeting of the JRF. The decision was preceded by a one-year evaluation process of the EWI by the JRF.

“We are very pleased to be part of a strong research community in NRW in the future,” says Annette Becker, general manager of the EWI. Prof. Dr. Marc Oliver Bettzüge, director of the EWI, adds: “Membership in the JRF will connect us with complementary and powerful partners, and the EWI can make relevant contributions to the JRF’s focus areas.” Moreover, membership in the JRF offers interesting and complementary perspectives for the training of junior scientists at the EWI.

Prof. Dr. Dieter Bathen, Chairman of the Board of the JRF says: “We warmly welcome the EWI to the JRF! With the EWI, we gain an institute that complements our research community excellently. The networking potential with other JRF institutes is huge, especially on the leading topic, “Industry & Environment.” We are therefore very much looking forward to future collaboration.

The JRF was established in 2014. The EWI is the first institute to join the research community since then. The EWI and the JRF anticipate intensive cooperation with other JRF institutes, an exchange on different working levels, and the bundling of forces in the promotion of junior researchers, public relations, and representation of interests.
