CO2 infrastructures are important for a climate-neutral Germany

A CO2 infrastructure is needed to achieve climate neutrality in the long term. Because even if 100 per cent renewable energies were used, CO2 emissions would still occur in some manufacturing processes. CO2 capture will become important in these processes in the medium to long term. Regardless of whether the captured CO2 is used or stored, it will have to be transported in any case; via CO2 infrastructures such as pipelines, ships, trains or trucks.

Within the framework of the Policy Brief, the EWI examines this issue and provides policy makers with recommendations for action for the ramp-up. The most important fields of action identified for the ramp-up of CO2 infrastructures are public acceptance, legal framework, creating demonstration projects & model regions, identifying infrastructure needs and ensuring integration into infrastructure planning.
