The analysis, which was carried out in collaboration with THEMA, examines the effects of bidding zone splits in Germany on electricity prices within Germany and in its neighboring countries. It also looks at several other relevant key figures, such as market values of renewable energy production or redispatch volumes.
In addition to a reference scenario, the analysis examines sensitivities regarding the expansion of network, electrolyzers, batteries and renewable energies and investigates the impact of these factors on price differences between zones and associated market values.
The executive summary contains the focal results of the non-public analysis. The commissioner agreed to the publication of the executive summary.
