Prof. Dr. Marc Oliver Bettzüge is a Director and a member of the Executive Board of EWI. In addition, he holds a chair for Economics, Energy, and Sustainability at the University of Cologne. His research interests comprise institutional, economic and strategic issues in energy economics and energy policy.
Professor Bettzüge is an active member of various scientific and advisory boards as well as of national and international academic committees. From 2011 to 2013, he has been a member of the German Parliament’s Commission on “Growth, Wellbeing and Quality of Living”.
After studying mathematics and economics at the Universities of Bonn, Cambridge and Berkeley, and receiving a doctoral degree in financial economics, Professor Bettzüge worked as a researcher at the Universities of Bonn and Zurich, and as a management consultant with internationally renowned management consulting firms. Prior to his appointment to the University of Cologne in 2007, he held the position of Partner and Vice President with Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In August 2020, Prof. Bettzüge was appointed by the German government as a member of the Council of Experts on Climate Change.
