Gas-fired power generation in winter 2022/2023

The use of natural gas for electricity generation this winter depends on the availability of other power plant technologies. In this analysis, the EWI investigates how large this influence could be. The Europe-wide use of power plants is simulated taking into account lower availability of French nuclear power plants, additional coal capacity in Germany and a stretch operation of German nuclear power plants until April 2023. In addition, the relevance of imports in the German electricity market is shown.
